The state of California in the USA is considered the highest forest fire prone area in the world. The odds are almost 100% that during summer, they will battle a forest blaze. Most of these fires are caused by people who carelessly drop burning matchsticks or burning cigarette butts. Once they land on dry leaves or grass, the strong summer winds blow them into a raging inferno. Much as these fires are devastating and highly destructive, there is a positive lesson we can learn from them.
A flame from a matchstick is quite small and often cannot burn for long more so if it’s exposed to strong winds, but once it lands on combustible materials, everything changes. It’s in the same way that life starts from a small cell not even visible to the eye. Once it’s exposed to the right environment, it starts developing and in no time, it becomes a full grown human being. The matchstick is like that cell and it’s the one that “gives birth”to that huge inferno.
Every one of us has that one unique thing in us that comes naturally. While it may not be visible to the eye, it is inherent in each one of us. It might be a talent, a gift or an idea in the mind. Many may dismiss it because it’s hard to imagine it growing to be that huge company or business idea we envisage or that idea that will revolutionize or change how we live or do business. A few examples are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Zoom and M-pesa. These were ideas in a person’s mind but once the “match was struck” things changed.
We all need to have courage and confidence in our abilities and not fear to put these seemingly small ideas into action. These ideas may be what the world is waiting for to launch into the next revolution. Expose that idea or plan to be in the right environment and before long, it will burn into a huge inferno changing lives, businesses and opening up opportunities to yourself as well as possibly, to other people.
