I was doing some reading and came across this letter written by an iconic president of the United States of America to his son’s teacher.  It gave me a guideline for determining the diversity and necessities for my success and fulfilment:

**************************

Respected teacher,

My son will have to learn. I know that all men are not just, all men are not true. But teach him also that for every scoundrel there is a hero.  That for every selfish politician there is a dedicated leader, for every enemy there is a friend.

It will take time. I know. But teach him that a dollar earned is worth more than five found. Teach him to learn to love and also enjoy the winning.  Steer him away from envy. Teach him the secret of quiet laughter. Let him learn that bullies are easiest to lick.

Teach him the wonder of books, but also give him time to ponder over the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on the green hillside.

Teach him that its far more honourable to fail than to cheat.

Teach him faith in his ideas even if everyone tells them they are wrong.

Tell him to be gentle with gentle people and tough with the tough.

Yours,

Abraham Lincoln
