Life comes as a package of many ‘firsts’. It all starts as cute as a baby ‘s first cry, first step, first time to call mommy/daddy, and we love to document these precious moments. However, the older we grow, our ‘firsts’ are no longer cute anymore, indeed at times, some “first” can even be a bit scary.

Life is full of so many uncertainties and fears. Just like when learning new skills such as swimming, skating, skiing and cycling; the fear is real and we know how hard it is to make that first step. That moment when you need to let go and allow yourself to trust that all will turn out well.

To get from one step to another, we must be ready to handle life when it comes at you first. When you become a parent for the first time; the beauty of seeing your image on your baby for the first time but there is also the scary bit of not being able to handle parenthood so well. Being a new parent especially, can be very worrying and many ladies end up being so scared, that this often leads to depression.

In relationships the same fears apply. You may be a guru (based on the number of relationships you have been in, and how well you think you know boys or girls), but there is always some thing new about the other person. Just as we cannot assume that we are good at every thing, we need to be ready for the firsts and know that it may not turn out perfect but there is always a lesson to learn from it.

When life comes at you first; embrace it, believe that you have all that it takes, no matter how it turns out, you did your best and that’s all that matters. You are amazing, you are well equipped. Remember how you handle this determines how you will handle the next time life comes at you first. It’s the First not the last First.  To read more posts by Mercy, click HERE
