How many times have we been told that our thoughts, actions, attitudes and progress are determined or influenced, by our “enclosure” in other words, our surroundings? Do you know what makes the difference between you and the child that is born in a very remote area in terms of your progress in life? Well, the answer lies in what you see around you and with who you surround yourself.
If for that child, the biggest achievement in terms of technology is that old bus that ferries people to the City Centre every two days, then you can almost be sure that the dream of that child is to become a bus-driver and at the very least, get to visit the City Centre. Yes, that is the biggest goal that child wishes to accomplish in life. Would you blame him/her for lack of being visionary, no way! In fact, that is the maximum point s/he could go. S/he has never seen anything more appealing than that.
The question today is what is the stretch of your native land? What have you limited yourself to? We need to cultivate a culture of seeing beyond our noses, seeing beyond that bus and the City Centre. Don’t think of that business you want to start as having a market share of only those around you; look at it as reaching out far beyond and becoming a multi-national company. Don’t look at yourself as just an intern in that company, or that assistant, you could go to so much of greater heights and will look back and just smile wondering if you are/were the same person. It’s your attitude, thoughts and vision that count.
This year has just been an eye opener for me. You nailed it Mercy. This has been my mantra in life. That Kenya was not created for me rather I was created for the world. The world belong to God. Am His child there the world belongs to us and we should explore it, the opportunities there within.
