Aparupa Chakravarti is a Consultant at Avignam Group, a young, ambitious company committed to South-South private sector development between India and Africa, where her role has been to manage and promote their Africa operations. Aparupa has offered strategic inputs to the MD in terms of project design and opportunities for growth, as well as overseeing a team of analysts and associates based in India, Kenya, and, Tanzania. She was initially based in Kigali, Rwanda, until January this year, after which she was transferred to Nairobi.
Aparupa’s sectorial experience in her current as well as previous roles extends to agriculture, heathcare, education, and trade and investment. Her experience is very varied and includes:
- Offering strategic inputs to MD: building brand; forging relationships with private sector, bi/multilateral agencies, senior govt. officials, policy makers; managing/promoting African operations single-handedly.
- Developing strategy for implementing Ask Indus (facilitation firm connecting private sectors of India, Africa) on turn-key basis with a foreseeable investment of $2M
- Analysing trade, investment relations between India, E. Africa for the UK’s DFID’s first South-South project. Sectors: agriculture/agro-processing, leather, SMEs, gems/jewellery, ICT, culminating in a $19M project, SITA (Supporting India’s Trade Preferences for Africa).
- She also led a study in 3 Indian cities to understand experiences of African university students; 91 students across 9 institutions; outcomes to inform internal policy, operational decisions.
