Prof. Gituro Wainaina

VISION 2030 – A national long-term development blue-print to create a globally competitive and prosperous nation with a high quality of life by 2030, that aims to transform Kenya into a newly industrializing, middle-income country providing a high quality of life to all its citizens by 2030 in a clean and secure environment.

Prof. Gituro Wainaina is the current Acting Director General of Vision 2030 and has extensive working experience with organizations including, The World Bank. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics, a Masters in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Education and is Associate Professor in the School of Business,  University of Nairobi.  Prof Wainaina will discuss the role & opportunities for youth as envisioned under Vision 2030.  He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics, a Masters in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Education and is Associate Professor in the School of Business,  University of Nairobi. 

Prof. Wainaina has extensive working experience with organizations including, The World Bank, where he was a Senior Educational Economist, CARE International in Kenya where he was the Regional Coordinator, the University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services Limited where he was the Deputy Managing Director and the Business Development Manager.  Prof. Wainaina has also been a board member of the Capital Markets Authority and is currently the Director of the Social and Political Pillars as well as Acting Director General of Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat. 

 Prof. Gituro Wainaina is a board member of Lamu Port, South Sudan and Ethiopia Transport Corridor Project, alternate board member for Africa Group B Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century under Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, committee board member at Management University of Africa, board member of Institutional Review Board under African Population & Health Research Center and is a member Uwezo Kenya National Advisory Committee. 

 Prof. Wainaina’s research interest areas are: Food security, Water Harvesting and Management, Financing of Education and, Capacity Development for effective implementation of Kenya Vision 2030.
