On ‘Five Things You Should Never Do When Dating In Nairobi’

Nairobi popularly known as the fountain of fresh water, the valley under the sun has the best brains in the region, the most attractive all-rounded women with unmatched repertoire who deserve to be accorded praise from south of Sahara to North of Limpopo.

The men are equally admirable often being referenced to as the standard mark of quality. However I have heard expressions of disappointment which I will highlight as a No go areas:

  1. Talk about your Ex

This, I understand, is the king of boredom. It takes the crown by a huge margin. No one is happy to hear you mourn about your ex unless they’re your psychiatrist billing you in dollars by the hour. In fact, no one enjoys that. Self-pity drives people away from you like the plague. This is perhaps why some people vanish immediately after the first date.

  1. Tag your friends along

I’ve heard men complain about this. I’ve even seen videos of this. A gentleman invites a woman on a date which he has meticulously budgeted for. Shock on him when the lady shows up with her friends. Lol. This, my friend, is a cardinal sin.

  1. Pretend not to know your friends

Do not be ashamed of who you are or who your friends are. Should you be a regular at a joint, don’t put a façade to make an impression on the woman you are dating. No one wants to date a pretender. Body language gives you away whenever you try to ignore someone you know. Be warm, true and authentic. Let your partner love you for who you are.

  1. Disrespect the Waiter

There are some annoying habits that are a complete turn off. To mention a few “Weh” “Ksss Ksss” you Nairobians know what I am talking about. Be respectful and considerate when addressing the waiter. This also I would advise my lady friends to take as an assessment. If he does not respect the waiter, my friend I doubt he will respect you enough as soon as you wedlock him.

  1. Brag too much

We all have that one friend who talks too much and keeps bragging about how he is a great conversationalist, how the date went well etc etc etc. Dude slow down and listen. This is a date you are on so you can get to know someone better. It is not a national museum where people have come to hear your accolades.

Hope the above was useful. Engage me further. Until we speak again. I am your host Mitchell Odhiambo. Welcome to a man’s world. To get a female perspective on this, please CLICK HERE to read my colleague Yvonne’s views
