As we age, we become wiser; for experience grants us the capacity to make wiser decisions.

In hindsight, we are able to look at the decisions we made or the issues that worried us at particular points and laugh at how naïve/ignorant we were. This article is dedicated to highlight some of these issues.

For starters, I’d tell my younger version to enjoy every season; no need to worry or stress, every season comes with its lessons and builds our capacity. To worry is to waste our time and resources. Everything will be alright. Make a prayer to your creator and enjoy every moment. After all, no one by worrying ever added length to his height or cubit to their hair. He that dresses the lilies of the valleys and the flowers of the field has things under control.

I would also advise my younger version to be a good steward of the resources in their possession. Make savings and investments with the little you acquire. Make yourself a buffer of trade. This will come in handy on rainy days.

Also actively participate in sports; it is not only good for your well-being and health, but sports teaches you the essence of a team, the importance of mapping team players to positions that accentuate their strengths, a strategic approach to challenges in life and highlights the importance of mature conflict resolution. These are values that will make you people centric and excellent at human interactions.

And ultimately, surround yourself with mentors and people who will challenge you to bring out the best in you always. Never settle for less.

Take your time and write a letter to your younger self 15 or 10 years ago, Advising him/her based on what you now know.  Until we speak again, I am your host Mitchell Odhiambo. Welcome to a man’s world. To get a female perspective on this, check out Mercy’s post HERE
