“Relationships are more important than life, but it’s important for those relationships to have life in them” ~Swami Vivekanada

As a human being, we all desire to be loved and have a sense of belonging. We long for good and healthy relationships. Whether it’s romantic, family, platonic, colleagues or any other form of relationships, they form a critical part of each one of us. As it is said, “man is not an island.” The role of the people around us is essential.

The most beautiful thing about relationships is that they are our choice to make. We get to decide who stays and who leaves. We get to decide who is in our inner circle and who doesn’t deserve to be there. We even get to decide who is in our circle of influence and who is in our circle of concern.

If you are asked who are the 5 most important people in your life, whom would you write down and why? I would guess, there are common characteristics in these 5 people. These are the people who are there for you and you are there for them. These are the people whom we  feel so safe and at peace with. These are people we can easily open up to and at times, have endless talks with.  In most cases, they are people with whom who share the same values.

This simply proves how important healthy relationships are to us. If we were to lose one of these people, either through a heart break or death or even distance, they somehow go with a part of us. It also gets devastating if we don’t feel cared for by these people who mean so much to us.

Think about this, who are those 5 people in your life?  To get a male perspective on this, check out Mitchell’s views on the importance of good relationships, click HERE
