On Career Woman vs Home-maker

It’s the 21st Century, home is not what it used to be. Roles are being redefined, a lot of evolution from the traditional way that things were being done. As a young man, do you marry the career woman or the housewife? Is there a delicate balance between the two? Can I have both? Should I wait untill she has her third degree sbefore I can propose marriage or should I go to the village, get a woman who got as far as class 8 and come keep her in my house as the mother of my children? What should I do?

There seems to be a perception that the men we are raising would happily vouch for the village girl who would always look to him for everything. But I wonder how true this is. Kenyan men seem to be developing a bias towards women from Coast province or our Ugandan and Tanzanian counterparts. Is this because our Kenyan women are high achievers or is it because of something else that remains unaddressed? Tell me if you know.

An intelligent friend of mine mentioned he is happier marrying a woman who knows how to behave like one. He doesn’t mind how many qualifications she has, he is happy supporting her dreams and ambitions, in fact he wants a woman who can challenge him but what he would hate would be to have a rival in the house. He does not want the house to constantly feel like a battle field or takeover. He has enough of that in the office. When he comes home he wants this to be his haven, a place of solace, where he comes to the love of his life and gets rejuvenated to face life the following day. I liked his line of thought.

He went on to point out that today’s men spend an awful lot of time in the office sometimes unnecessarily or they watch games they don’t like, register for society clubs whose mission they don’t believe in, just to get an extra 20 minutes or hour away from home because the woman of the house has not made the atmosphere at home welcoming. This got me worried.

A significant percentage of men I graduated with recently said they are going back to the village to get wives. I wonder where this is going. That said, I guess it’s a free country and men can do as they please.
