A compass is a navigational equipment used by sailors, pilots or trekkers across deserts be they hot or cold deserts.

The main focus of a compass is the position of the needle and at all times, it is pointing to the North. When you are in the middle of a desert, high up in the air or deep in the sea, you depend on your maps and the compass. If you want to get to a certain destination, the map instructs you on the degrees you are going to tend to but all of them have the north as their anchor. More often, especially deep in the ocean, if you try to use the human logic of where you think the north is instead of consulting the compass, you will end up losing your way. The compass needle uses the earth’s magnetic forces to help maintain its accuracy.

All of us have a similar make up. In our daily lives, we have guidelines set to help us navigate the daily challenges. There are set rules in every single phase of our lives and though some may feel a bit tough, they are for our own good. The country has a constitution, schools and workplaces have rules and regulations. These always make our work easier for they set the boundaries. They are what a true North is in a compass. Resisting or going against these set rules has led many into making decisions which were both destructive and catastrophic. We should avoid applying our own logic because those who set these guidelines, have often done enough research and they know their profitability. For the young and old, respect the compass and you will never miss out on the destination towards which, you have set to arrive at. To read more posts by Mwangi, click HERE
