A man tells a story, ” Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it. From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. But if you get a closer look you will notice something quite interesting…

One of the horses is blind but his owner has chosen not to have him put down, and has made him a safe and comfortable barn to live in. This alone is pretty amazing. However, if you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. It is coming from a smaller horse in the field. Attached to the horse’s halter is a small, copper-colored bell. It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow. As you stand and watch these two friends, you will see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, trusting he will not be led astray. When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, he will stop occasionally to look back, making sure that the blind friend isn’t too far behind to hear the bell.”

I find this story amazingly sweet. How many times do we become caring to that person who seems not to have any direction in their life? Or, to that person who can be termed as ‘good for nothing’? Or, the person who is not as skilled or wise as you are? How about the person whom others have given up on?

My challenge to you is,“Have you really been that ‘leading horse’ full of love and care? Have you been that trustworthy or have you been the one who puts others down? Whichever the answer, it is never too late, that can be your resolution in 2017.

I have had people who have been ‘leading horses‘ in my life. I am very grateful to the ATB Community for the great impact you have made in my life in 2018. To my very loyal readers, all of you who encourage me in my writing and always look forward to the Wellness Wednesday column, you are truly an inspiration. And every other person that I may not mention by name, it never goes unnoticed. I hope I have been a ‘leading horse’ in someone’s life too.  To read more posts by Mercy, click HERE
